When the Dust Settles

what up yall, alot of good things in the making. First up a few projects that are getting finished up now. I did a full project with a group from Jersey called Brokn Englsh, a full EP with a group called Good Biz, A track with Doitall(LOTUG) from his up and coming album, A few joints on the new Chip-Fu project titled “War Paint”, a track with Finale from Detroit, The Burnerz (Zumbi & The ARE) full length, HeadKrack and Dave just got his batch of 17 tracks for the next __ __ ____ album(hoping he picks something).
This Biz is craziness. When I got back from NY, I had to reset my brain. I had gotten so used to trying to cater beats to certain artist that I almost forgot about me and my sound. It feels good to be back in grind mode. I know the industry is madness right now but stay hungry and creative. Now is the time because when the dust settles you will be on top! There will still be ups and downs and sometimes you gotta be down to get back up.

A true inspiration

Where were you??

I had been playing hundreds and hundreds of beats over a 6 to 8 month period. I was highly inspired by the beats I was hearing on all the dirty beat tapes. Too the point that it was all I was listening to. In the car, at home in the ipod etc. I had been a fan of Jay Dee for many many years but this new stuff was just crazy! One thing was his ability to take a sample that you might otherwise think couldn’t be freaked and he would make it sound incredible. That was probably the main thing that got me to push harder to make that sample work for me.
I was on the other side of town to meet with a guy who had a studio and a label. He wanted to hear beats for his artist. I had been there for about 2 hrs playing beats and decided to head out. As I drove away, Dilla beats playing on the ipod, I got a call. The person on the other line said He thinks Dilla may have died. My response was “WHAT???” I knew he had been sick but I didn’t know it was to that point. They said they weren’t 100% sure but thats what they heard. I immediately called my contact and it was confirmed. Dilla had passed. As I drove home, I turned the beats up louder and louder and thought damn………”what I’m listening to right now is it”, “at this point in time , it will never be made like this by Dilla ever again”…….. Back to Business

So we’re days into 2010. I took a couple weeks off for the holidays and to clear my head. Now that it’s 2010, it’s time to get back to the program and get back to the beats and life as I new it before all this holiday stuff. One thing I want to try and do this year is talk about things. I used to think that talking about situations would jinx them but now I just don’t care about the jinx. If it’s gonna happen, it’s gonna happen and if not, it’s not. Right? So, I’ll do my best to update my blog on development’s as they come about.
One thing I’m trying to be a part of is the new De La Soul album. Dave hit me up and said they were gonna start recording the beginning of 2010 so right now, it’s De La mode. I’d like to get 10 to 15 joints knocked out over the next week or two and get those over to him. Also, I just got word that B.O.B./kidz in the hall/Mickey Factz took a joint of mine so we’ll see where that goes.

It’s good to have great friends. Last night I went to a party for New Years and to my surprise, it was a surprise B day party for me as well. I was completely stunned when I walked in the door. Too be honest, I thought people were just just saying happy b day as a side note….atleast until I saw this……..

The 45’s event was insane! I had a blast and got to rock some of my 80’s favorites as well. I started with the heavy funk and breaks and eventually moved into some of my favorite 80’s joints. from Kraftwerk to Nu Shooz! Big up to Dj Sun, Brett Koshkin and Joe Doe for doing their thing as well!
